Result: Chiswick 1-3 East Putney
Match Summary
Chiswick put in a strong performance but fell to a 3-1 defeat against East Putney at home. Despite controlling possession for large parts of the game, individual mistakes ultimately decided the outcome, with the visitors capitalising on defensive lapses.
Control Without the Finishing Touch
Chiswick lined up in a 4-3-3 formation, with a last-minute change to the defence. The right-back stepped into midfield, creating a back three and giving Chiswick a numerical advantage in the middle of the park. The home side dominated possession, moving the ball well and creating several half-chances.
However, Chiswick struggled to make the final pass count in the attacking third. While they controlled the game, the team couldn't convert their opportunities into goals, and the first half ended without a breakthrough.
Second HalfDefensive Errors Prove Costly
East Putney came out pressing high in the second half, forcing Chiswick to play long balls. This disrupted Chiswick’s rhythm, and the first goal came after a slip by the right-back, allowing East Putney to take advantage of a deflected shot that found its way into the net.
Chiswick continued to try and play their way back into the game, but a second goal followed, with a defensive mix-up pulling the centre-back out of position, leaving space for East Putney to extend their lead.
Chiswick pulled one back late on through a well-worked team goal, with the winger setting up the striker for an easy finish into an open net. However, East Putney sealed the victory when Chiswick’s goalkeeper, attempting to dribble out of his box, was tackled, allowing the visitors to score a third.
Tactical AnalysisA Tale of Two Halves
Chiswick impressed in the first half, controlling the game and creating chances, but struggled to maintain their level in the face of East Putney’s second-half press.
"The team didn’t play badly, but we dropped our standards after the break," said Coach Mo. "In the first half, we were playing some really good football, but in the second half, we let them get on top of us."
Even the East Putney manager admitted the scoreline didn’t reflect the balance of the game.
"He told me it wasn’t really a 3-1 game," shared Coach Mo. "It was much closer than the result suggests, but we made a few mistakes that cost us."
Looking AheadPositives to Build On
Despite the defeat, Chiswick showed plenty of promise, especially in their possession play and tactical organisation. If the team can improve their finishing and tighten up defensively, they have the potential to bounce back in future matches. There are clear positives to take from this performance, and the team will look to build on them moving forward.
