CHELSEA ROVERS take the win in yet another cup weekend with Facundo Barreto bagging his first hat-trick for the Rovers and Joshua adding an extra-time goal in the 4-1 win over hosts and fellow league member LDN South West in the League Senior Cup.
After a close loss against Alfold FC Reserves last weekend on penalties, a win was much needed for the Rovers to keep in the hunt for a domestic treble. Playing at Imperial Fields Sports Ground in our Navy kit, Facundo broke the deadlock with a goal on the 10th minute. LDN South West leveled on 23 minutes but the Rovers immediately took back the lead with another goal by Facundo on the 29th minute. We entered the break leading 2-1. Facundo completed his hat-trick on the 63rd minute before Joshua rounded off the win with an extra-time goal to give the Rovers an impressive 4-1 win to allow us to progress into the next round of the League Senior Cup.
The Rovers bounced back greatly from the loss against Alfold Reserves, especially with star players Amar and Maximus returning from their trials in Korea for a short time. Former player Jason Zapata, now in the Belgian Second Division with Lokeren, visited London to support the Rovers, which gave the entire team a big boost. This ends our consecutive weekends of cup matches as we await to see who we face next weekend.
Few changes to the line-up were made as Ilija kept his place in goal. Jake, Jonathan, newly converted defender Abraham, and Jason lined-up in defense. Jie and Juan started in midfield alongside Amar, while Joshua spearheaded the attack with Facundo and the returning Maximus on either wing. Giorgio, Bryan, Faisal, and Shairy awaited on the bench.
